Federal Election 2025 – Get Involved

The 2025 Federal Election is important for several reasons, none more so than for the thousands of Australians living with MND.

The Election is a significant opportunity for you to stand with us and raise awareness of MND with federal politicians and support positive improvements in Australian Government policy and funding programs to help everyone living with MND.

MND Australia is calling for five priorities to be addressed by every candidate in the federal election:

  1. Fund MND Australia to build the National MND Insights Platform. This dataset will link existing data sources and evidence to enable research and develop data driven care services for people living with MND. Costing: $12 million over four years.
  2. Maintain the NDIS Priority Eligibility Decision Pathway that fast tracks people with MND to gain access to the NDIS and maintain the dedicated team of planners with MND expertise.
  3. Establish a fast-tracked pathway to access the Aged Care system, including Support at Home, for people living with MND aged 65 and over to stay in their homes longer.
  4. Fund Aged Care supports to comparable levels to the NDIS. Costing: $287 million a year.
  5. Include genetic counselling under Medicare to enable access and informed decision making regarding genetic testing, thereby protecting future generations.

What can I do?

While we continue to advocate directly to government, we need your help more than ever before.

1. Write to your local federal member

You can write a letter to send to the candidates in your electorate highlighting your personal story, the need for greater support for MND by the federal government and sharing the five key election priorities.

  • A template/email letter is available here
  • Find your federal electorate here
  • Find your candidate here (available when the election is announced)
  • If you need help finding the contact details for your candidate, email Heba Abudiak on heba.abudiak@mndaustralia.org.au

2. Meet with your local candidates

MND Australia and State MND Associations will be actively engaging with all federal politicians and candidates. We will be meeting with these people over the coming weeks and invite you to join us. If you would like to be part of these meetings or would like to organise your own meeting with an MP or candidate, we would love to support you to ensure your voice is heard.

For more information, email Heba Abudiak on heba.abudiak@mndaustralia.org.au

3. Join the social media campaign

Greater awareness of MND is critical to gaining greater support from the federal government. MND Australia encourages you to share our posts, post to your own social media using the templates below or comment on your candidates posts asking them what they are doing to support those living with MND.

Please use the hashtags and handles below so we can help to amplify your voices.

4. Send a video or voice memo to your candidates

You can email a video or voice member to your local candidates. This is an innovative and impactful way to get your message directly to our future decision makers.

  • Find your federal electorate here
  • Find your candidate here (available when the election is announced)
  • If you need help finding the contact details for your candidate, email Heba Abudiak on heba.abudiak@mndaustralia.org.au

5. Raise MND with candidates when you see them in the community

Over the coming weeks, federal candidates will be campaigning in the community. These candidates will be promoting their views and ideas ahead of the election. They will also be reporting back to their campaigns as to what they are hearing on the ground.

There is a significant opportunity to raise awareness of MND with candidates by talking to them as they campaign.

To support this, you can download the MND Australia Election Platform and supporting talking points.
